Buy the Best is now a two-time stakes-winning 2-year-old after her win in the $100,000 Gin Talking S. on the day after Christmas at Laurel Park. The daughter of Tapiture has now won four straight dating back to last September, including the $100,000 Smart Halo S. over this same track six weeks ago.
With just a few days remaining in the year, Tapiture is virtually assured of leading the Third-Crop sire list by winners, with 129 to date, 17 more than his closest competitor. He also ranks third by stakes horses, with 17, and progeny earnings of $7.6 million.
Beneath the Stars broke the best in the seven-furlong Gin Talking, with Buy the Best biding her time between horses a couple lengths off the leader. Beneath the Stars cleared off by four lengths midway on the turn, then Buy the Best launched her bid. The duo were on even terms with a furlong to go, when Buy the Best assert herself to win by two lengths in 1:26.79 on a fast track.
Buy the Best upped her record to 4-1-0 in six starts and improved her earnings to $177,480 for owner Hope Jones. The bay filly was bred in Kentucky by Susan Moulton. Buy the Best is out of the stakes-winning Indian Charlie mare Sister Dawn.
