Multiple graded stakes winner Leofric tallied his first stakes winner of 2024 on Saturday at Laurel Park when Roanan Goddess took the $100,000 Xtra Heat S.
The 3-year-old filly, who was making her first start of the year, settled along the rail two lengths from the lead as the field sped through an opening quarter-mile in :22.86. Reconcile, the pacesetter, continued to lead into the stretch, with Roanan Goddess just behind her.
As Roanan Goddess attempted to come up the inside with a furlong to run, Reconcile bumped her soundly, but Roanan Goddess would not be denied and forged to the lead. She pulled away in the final sixteenth to win by 2 ¼-lengths in 1:11.82 over a muddy racetrack.
With the win, her first in a stakes, Roanan Goddess is now 3-1-0 in seven starts and has earned $147,240 for Mens Grille Racing.
Roanan Goddess was bred Chad Carter and is the second foal out of Night Madam, who has a yearling full brother to Roanan Goddess named Snowy Night.
Leofric, who joined the Darby Dan stallion roster in 2022, won both the Clark H. (G1) and Fayette H. (G2) while earning nearly $1 million in his career. A son of leading sire Candy Ride, Leofric stands for $7,500 S&N.
