Darby Dan Farm’s Gufo, a Grade 1 winner at three, four, and five, and a son of Declaration of War, sired his first reported foal on Friday, Jan. 24. The colt is out of the stakes-winning Rebellion (GB) mare Blurricane, an earner of $512,147 during her lengthy racing career over six seasons. The colt was bred by Ballycroy Bloodstock in Ontario where Gufo began his stallion career.

“We’re thrilled with this colt out of the resilient mare Blurricane,” said Michaela Kemp of Ballycroy Bloodstock. “He’s sure to be a runner.”

In a sensational racing career, Gufo won or placed in 12 graded stakes, including winning back-to-back renewals of the $750,000 Sword Dancer S. (G1) in 2021 and ’22, and the Belmont Derby Invitational S. (G1) in 2020. Gufo established a new nine-furlong course record at Delaware Park in 2020, winning his graded stakes debut in the Kent S. (G3) in 1:46.94. Remarkably, Gufo finished in the top three in 18-of-21 lifetime starts and retired with earnings of $2,176,530.

In addition to his Grade 1 success, Gufo also finished third in the Hollywood Derby (G1) at three; was second in the Man o’War S. (G1), third in both the Manhattan S. (G1) and the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic S. (G1); and was second again in the Man o’ War S. (G1) at five, as well as third in the Manhattan S. (G1).

Gufo is the leading earner for his multiple Group 1-winning sire Declaration of War, a son of War Front. Gufo is produced from the Petionville mare Floy, making him a half-brother to multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Hogy, who banked more than $1.3 million during his accomplished racing career and set a 5 ½-furlong track record of 1:01.56 on the turf at Fair Grounds. Gufo is owned by Dr. John Little, who co-bred him with long-time friend Dr. Stephen Cainelli.
