Shackleford’s 3-year-old colt Majid continued his climb up the class ladder Saturday at Belmont Park when he scored his first stakes win in the $150,000 Easy Goer S.
Now riding a four-race winning streak, Majid has earned $171,805 after Saturday’s one-length win in the 1 1/16-mile contest for 3-year-olds.
Mjiad is Shackleford’s fourth stakes winner this year. The Darby Dan stallion ranks in the top five on the Fourth-Crop Sire list by stakes horses, progeny earnings, winners, and stakes horses.
Since coming under the care of trainer Rudy Rodriguez at the beginning of the year, Majid has shown plenty of speed in all of his races, and did again on Saturday. Unpressured through a half-mile in :47.55 and six furlongs in 1:11.46, Majid had plenty left for the stretch run to hold off all his foes.
The final time on the fast track was 1:41.55.
“He looked like he was improving over the last couple of races and he ran great today,” said Rodriguez. “He showed heart today. It looked like he started to go to the lead, and he kept his determination so that was good to see he can do that, and hopefully he can keep doing that.”
Bred by Forever Spring Farm Syndicate, Majid was purchased by his owner Zayat Stables for $295,000 at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton March Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.
