Firenze Fire will start in his third different Breeders’ Cup race in as many years in Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1). The 4-year-old Poseidon’s Warrior colt ran in the Juvenile (G1) at two, then faced older horses when fourth in last year’s Dirt Mile (G1).
Firenze Fire is a four-time graded stakes winner of $1,457,600, capped by the Champagne S. (G1). Owned by his breeder Mr. Amore Stables, he is the leading earner for his sire, who joined the Darby Dan stallion roster in 2019 after leading the Florida Freshman Sire list in Florida.
The Sprint drew a field of 10, with Firenze Fire in post three with regular rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. He comes into the race off a nose loss in the Vosburgh Inv. (G1) and a good second in the Forego S. (G1).
The $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint is race 8 on Saturday, with a post time of 2:36 p.m. PT.
