Shackleford’s 2-year-old filly Moonlit Mission won her fourth straight start on Oct. 26 in the $150,000 John W. Galbreath S. at Mahoning Valley, coming from the back of the 10-horse field to win going away by 2 1/4-lengths.
Moonlit Mission now has two stakes wins and has won four of six overall and has won $182,050 for owner/trainer Charlie Williams.
Shackleford is in the top five on the Fourth-Crop sire list, with the most graded stakes winners (3) and second by winners with 110.
Moonlit Mission, making her first start beyond a mile, bided her time until three furlongs to run, when she moved up while well off the fence, ultimately striking the front with about a sixteenth to run, then drew away late to secure the win.
Moonlit Mission was bred by Belvedere Farm Inc. and hails from the family of Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Twilight Ridge.
