Sky Kingdom’s hip No. 155 in the March 27 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale turned in a brilliant work during Monday’s Under Tack show, rolling through an eighth-mile in :09 4/5 seconds, the fastest breeze of the day by a colt.
Consignor Ciaran Dunne of Wavertree Stables was thrilled with the work. “He advertised himself as a good horse all year,” Dunne said. “We thought he would work really well, but you’re never thinking :9 4/5. But the good ones tend to show up.”
Dunne also elaborated on the colt’s pedigree and $115,000 purchase price as a yearling last July. “Everybody at the sale wanted to buy him, it was just a question of who was going to be the last man standing,” Dunne said. “He’s just a gorgeous horse; they don’t make horses any prettier than he is. Physically he is as good as they come and he worked really well. He will sell himself. He’s a bit special.”
The colt’s young dam, Truelladeville, is a daughter of the stakes-placed mare Devil’s Bride.
Sky Kingdom, a track record-setter and multiple graded stakes winner, has a 2019 2-year-old sales average of more than 13 times his stud fee of $5,000.
