Steph’sfullasugar and Miss Tap Dance both won their first starts of the year in 3-year-old maiden special weight races on Saturday to kick off 2020 on a high note for their sire Tapiture, who finished 2019 as co-leading First-Crop sire with 27 winners.
Steph’sfullasugar was making her debut in the Saturday opener at the Fair Grounds. Coming from well off the pace, she rallied in the stretch to win by two lengths. The chestnut filly is owned by her breeder Autumn Hill Farms Racing Stables, Inc. She is the first foal out of Share the Sugar, who is a half-sister to graded winner Rated R Superstar.
Miss Tap Dance, who was also making her first start, rolled to a 4 1/4-length win going 7 1/2-furlongs at Laurel Park. She races for Pater Mattson and was bred in Kentucky by Lesley Campion and is the first foal from stakes winner Ruby Pumps.
