Nice as Pie scored her third straight victory in the $125,000 Valdale S. Saturday night at Turfway Park, winning by 2 ¼-lengths under a hand ride.
The 3-year-old daughter of Tapiture, a Dede McGehee homebred, was making her stakes debut in the 6 ½-furlong Valdale. She was well off the lead after the first quarter-mile, then steadily made up ground while three-wide around the turn. Turning for home, she easily took command and opened up a clear advantage, then was eased up in the final strides for an extremely impressive win.
Nice as Pie now has three wins in four starts and has earned $159,159.
Tapiture is currently the leading Fifth-Crop sire of winners this year, with 26 to date. He has accounted for four stakes horses in 2024, including Tapalo, runner-up in yesterday’s El Camino Real Derby. Tapiture stands this year for $7,500 S&N.
